Position Overview
As a key member of our team, the Custodian HS/EHS plays a vital role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our early childhood education facilities. This position is essential in supporting the overall mission of East Side House Settlement by ensuring that our spaces are conducive to learning and development for children aged 18 months to 5 years.

Key Responsibilities
1. **General Cleaning Duties**: Perform routine cleaning tasks including dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors. Ensure that all wastebaskets and trash containers are emptied and cleaned regularly.
2. **Floor Maintenance**: Strip, clean, buff, and apply floor finishes to hard surfaces. Vacuum and shampoo carpets as needed.
3. **Facility Setup**: Assist in preparing facilities for various events, meetings, and classroom activities.
4. **Equipment Operation**: Safely operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools, including high-pressure washers and power tools.
5. **Building Security**: Lock and unlock buildings as required, ensuring safety and security protocols are followed.
6. **Chemical Handling**: Follow instructions for the safe use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
7. **Seasonal Maintenance**: Conduct seasonal deep cleaning and maintenance of both interior and exterior spaces.
8. **Safety Inspections**: Regularly inspect facilities to identify and address safety hazards, ensuring a clean and safe environment for all.

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow directions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to teamwork.

Work Environment
This position involves the use of various janitorial supplies and equipment. Employees may be exposed to varying temperatures and must be able to lift and move supplies as needed.

Expected Schedule
This is a full-time role with a split-shift schedule, including some weekend work as necessary. Flexibility in hours may be required based on organizational needs.
