Heavy Equipment Hauler Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Hauler to join our team at Carter Machinery Company. As a Heavy Equipment Hauler, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of industrial/commercial parts and construction equipment to customer locations and our branches.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Transport heavy equipment and industrial/commercial parts to customer locations and our branches.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety regulations, state, and federal laws.
  • Operate a 5 or 6 axle configuration truck and conduct regular inspections to ensure it is in good working order.
  • Secure cargo for transport using chains and/or binders to conform with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform basic truck maintenance tasks and have a mechanical aptitude.
  • Interact professionally with customers and all levels of personnel within the organization.
  • Understand and explain problems and concerns related to deliveries.
  • Perform in situations requiring speed and tight deadlines.
  • Operate, demonstrate, and instruct proper equipment operation.
  • Provide excellent customer service and possess effective communication skills.
  • Operate a forklift and work additional hours as required by job and customer demand.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of two years of CDL driving experience, including heavy-haul and tractor/lowboy driving.
  • Valid CDL A licensure required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of DOT and Company safety standards and regulations.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Capable of operating a 5 or 6 axle configuration truck.
  • Ability to conduct inspections of truck to ensure it is in good working order.
  • Ability to secure cargo for transport using chains and/or binders to conform with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ability to perform basic truck maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to interact professionally with customers and all levels of personnel within the organization.
  • Ability to understand and explain problems and concerns related to deliveries.
  • Ability to perform in situations requiring speed and tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of rental, construction, and generator equipment.
  • Ability to operate, demonstrate, and instruct proper equipment operation.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to operate a forklift.
  • Ability to work additional hours as required by job and customer demand.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to qualify for a Department of Transportation medical card.
  • Able to lift and carry items weighing up to 80 pounds, including bulky objects.
  • Frequent reaching, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outside in inclement weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, dampness, and humidity.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
