About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Roadway Civil Engineer to join our team at TranSystems Corporation. As a key member of our transportation design team, you will be responsible for leading technical design efforts for highway and arterial roadway design, complex intersection design, local roadways, site design, and drainage design for various agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead technical design efforts for transportation facilities such as freeways, arterials, intersections, drainage, and site design.
  • Ensure accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness, and efficient conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
  • Research design options and document findings for Senior Project Engineer and/or Project Manager.
  • Provide input for Requests For Information (RFI's) and review shop drawings during the construction phase of the project.
  • Participate in business development activities and occasionally represent the organization in client meetings to resolve important questions.
  • Inform Project Manager of workload and any changes in project schedule, scope, or additional services.
  • Mentor younger engineers working on associated projects and maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Registered as a licensed Professional Engineer in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and/or Missouri, or the ability to attain within one (1) year of employment.
  • 5+ years of design experience preferred.
  • Knowledge and practice of industry-recognized technical manuals such as AASHTO and familiarity with State DOT standards and specifications.
  • Demonstrates creativity, foresight, and mature engineering judgment in anticipating and solving unprecedented engineering problems.
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
  • Actively advocates for full inclusion in the workplace, fostering an environment that welcomes diversity and values equity for all employees, partners, clients, and the communities that TranSystems serves.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with local state agencies and other Midwest municipalities.
  • Positive attitude and great collaborative communication in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, MicroStation (Geopak, OpenRoads), and roadway-associated technical programs.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills are imperative.
Work Environment

The work environment includes a hybrid in-office environment with flexibility of remote work weekly. Three (3) days of working in the office and as needed for projects, staff, and mentoring.
