Corewell Health - Full-time, 36 hours per week, Night Shift
Position OverviewThe Licensed Respiratory Care Specialist operates under minimal supervision to deliver and assess diagnostic and therapeutic respiratory services, aiding physicians in the diagnosis and management of patients experiencing cardiopulmonary and related conditions. This role includes participation in the education of patients, students, staff, and physicians, as well as providing technical support for all equipment pertinent to the practice of Respiratory Care.
Key Responsibilities- Administers general respiratory therapeutic services, which encompass oxygen therapy, medical gas therapy, bronchodilator therapy, airway maintenance therapy, and non-invasive ventilation (NIV).
- Conducts diagnostic respiratory services and non-invasive monitoring, including pulse oximetry, arterial blood gas procurement, capnography, pulmonary function testing, apnea screening, bronchoscopy assistance, and EKG procurement.
- Manages ventilators, oversees non-invasive ventilation, performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, and administers and monitors oxygen usage, aerosolized medications, and therapeutic modalities.
- Executes critical care procedures, including airway management, resuscitation, mechanical ventilation, and patient transport. Participates as a member of CPR/Code Blue and Rapid Response teams.
- Evaluates patients and recommends care plans according to established protocols. Conducts chart reviews, documentation, and provides education to patients and families regarding disease processes and treatment plans.
- Serves as a preceptor for students and staff.
- Maintains and cleans equipment in accordance with infection control guidelines.
- Diagnoses issues to ensure the proper functioning of respiratory equipment.
- Assists with various departmental functions.
- May receive cross-training in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and pediatric units as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in Respiratory Therapy is required.
- Licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan is mandatory upon hire.
- Certification from the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required upon hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire.
