Job Summary:

The Transportation Manager will oversee the daily operations of the Transportation department, ensuring a culture focused on people, safety, service, and cost. This includes managing personnel, driving efficient transportation operations, and ensuring safe and profitable daily outbound shipments to customers and other distribution centers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety and Compliance: Lead with a safety mindset, ensuring every associate, customer, and the general public remains injury-free. Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to create a safety-first culture.
  • Team Management: Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation associates through coaching, training, and problem resolution. Ensure all drivers and associates are trained in job duties, safety, and legal responsibilities.
  • Performance Management: Develop drivers and associates by discussing performance with Sr. Transportation Managers and creating plans to address gaps.
  • Communication and Engagement: Create an atmosphere encouraging upward communication and motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives.
  • Operations and Logistics: Direct and supervise the work and productivity of drivers and clerical associates. Drive associate engagement and retention, and create a culture embodying US Foods values.
  • Problem-Solving and Analysis: Monitor production goals, maintain a zero-error attitude, and ensure accuracy and customer satisfaction. Anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot problems with deliveries, devising cost-effective and legal solutions.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and stop waste, and improve processes to complete work more safely and efficiently.
  • Accident Investigation: Investigate all accidents, maintain an accident file, track causes, and take preventative action.
  • Scheduling and Planning: Effectively schedule working shifts using planning tools.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum three years of experience in transportation/delivery or warehouse distribution required. One year of experience overseeing a workforce required.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods, and procedures. Strong leadership, communication, and people development skills. Strong understanding of DOT requirements and familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; college degree preferred.

Work Environment:

May spend significant time on the road. Must spend time in a truck with drivers, exposed to noise and vibration levels. Will spend time in an office working on a computer.
