Job Title: MDS Nurse Specialist

At Hudson Elms Nursing Home, we are seeking a highly skilled MDS Nurse Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal care and services for our residents.

Job Summary:

The MDS Nurse Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and monitoring Medicare, Managed Care, and Medicaid revenue at our facility. This includes ensuring residents receive the necessary skilled services to meet their needs and facilitating the completion of the MDS 3.0 assessment tool.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Participate in the Nursing Management weekend on-call rotation and assist with medication administration in emergencies.
  2. Provide education and assistance to facilities on Medicare/Medicaid-related areas, including eligibility, certification, coverage, documentation, utilization, and reimbursement.
  3. Interact with Medicare, Managed Care, and Medicaid claims review units and compliance units to assist facilities in complying with company procedures and federal, state, and local regulations.
  4. Monitor and identify utilization issues and establish systems and programs to maximize utilization and reimbursement.
  5. Provide ongoing orientation and training to facility staff regarding Medicare, Managed Care, and Medicaid and other contracted third-party payers.
  6. Coordinate, facilitate, and attend meetings and participate in committees as assigned.
  7. Attend and participate in training and other learning activities at the facility level.
  8. Gather data and provide direction to acquire accurate and timely completion of the MDS 3.0 assessment tool.
  9. Make oneself available for regional visits to acquire knowledge and discuss ongoing issues at the facility level related to the accurate and timely completion of the MDS.
  10. Chair the care plan meeting and conduct those meetings in a thorough manner, capturing accurate information revealed through the completion of the MDS.
  11. Audit ADL logs and assessments to ensure accurate and timely completion of the MDS assessment tool.
  12. Communicate and observe the Corporate Compliance Program effectively and comply with the Code of Conduct when performing work functions.
Requirements:
  1. Two years of experience in Medicare/Medicaid areas in long-term care or clinical training.
  2. Excellent communication and teaching skills in both individual and group settings.
  3. Ability to maintain regular attendance and be available to travel, including overnight travel as required.
  4. Ability to perform all essential job functions of this position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  5. Working knowledge of MDS 3.0, care plans, care guides, and the CMI reimbursement process.
