Job Summary

We are seeking a Respiratory Student Tech to join our team at UnityPoint Health. As a Respiratory Student Tech, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in respiratory care while pursuing your education.

This is a PRN (as needed) position, requiring a minimum of 48 hours per quarter and one holiday per year. You will work closely with our experienced respiratory care team to provide basic respiratory care procedures and participate in patient and family teaching.

As a Respiratory Student Tech, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing respiratory care procedures as ordered by physicians
  • Participating in patient and family teaching
  • Working closely with the respiratory care team to ensure seamless patient care

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

· Utilize assessment skills to provide respiratory care procedures that achieve optimal benefit to patients.

· Communicate with respiratory care staff regarding patient therapy and expected outcomes.

Team Involvement

· Assist in workflow wherever needed to deliver prompt attention to patients.

· Respond to code situations to provide assistance if needed.

Documentation

· Maintain accurate records, documenting clinical notes in patients' EMRs.

· Educate patients on medications, spacers, their illness, and therapeutic devices.

Basic UPH Performance Criteria

· Demonstrate UnityPoint Health values and standards of behavior, adhering to policies and procedures and safety guidelines.

· Demonstrate ability to meet business needs of the department with regular, reliable attendance.

· Maintain current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

· Practice and reflect knowledge of HIPAA, TJC, DNV, OSHA, and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.

· Complete all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.

· Be knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g., Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste, and abuse.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Preferred or Specialized

Not required to perform the essential functions of the position.

Education:

Be enrolled in an accredited RT program and be in good standing or have graduated from an accredited RT program and awaiting boards.

Experience:

Completion of a semester of an accredited RT program with instructor recommendation/approval.

License(s)/Certification(s):

BCLS certification upon hire.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Writes, reads, comprehends, and speaks English.

Basic computer knowledge to chart in the EMR.

Able to communicate and work well with a team of various professionals.

Other:

Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

Child and Adult Mandatory Abuse Reporting training.
