Dental Hygienist

The Indian Health Service is seeking a highly skilled Dental Hygienist to join our team. As a key member of our dental care team, you will be responsible for providing advanced prophylactic and preventive dental procedures to patients with severe dental problems, including periodontal disease and medically compromised patients.

• Perform advanced oral prophylactic and preventive procedures, including scaling and root planning, to patients with periodontal disease and other medical conditions.
• Administer local anesthesia and provide home care instructions to patients.
• Assist the dentist in making repairs and adjustments to teeth, including smoothing rough edges of restorations and removing overhanging margins of fillings.
• Provide community-based dental prevention programs, including group and individual education, oral hygiene instructions, nutritional counseling, fluoride application, and sealant placement.
• Collaborate with the dental team to develop and implement treatment plans for patients.

• Current licensure to practice as a dental hygienist in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia.
• Experience in performing advanced oral prophylactic and preventive procedures, including scaling and root planning.
• Ability to administer local anesthesia and provide home care instructions to patients.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, dentists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.

This position is located in a Federally operated hospital, health center, or clinic. The selected individual will be required to maintain licensure requirements and obtain and maintain clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
