Position Summary
The Nursing Assistant II (per diem) is essential for the Transplant Acute Care Unit, dedicated to providing exceptional care for patients undergoing abdominal transplant, urology, and plastic surgery procedures. Our unit, consisting of 15 beds, is recognized for its commitment to delivering advanced and specialized medical attention. With over 125 transplants performed annually, our program is certified by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, making it one of the leading transplant teams in the area. We emphasize enhancing clinical outcomes through a collaborative approach involving education, research, and clinical practice. Our team partners with the nationally ranked UNC Urology to ensure personalized and compassionate care for our patients.
In addition to managing urology and transplant cases, our staff also provides care for high-risk plastic surgery patients, addressing complex wound management needs with expertise.
This position operates on a Per Diem basis, requiring a minimum commitment of 12 hours every two weeks. Shifts include rotating day and night schedules (7am-7:30pm & 7pm-7:30am), along with weekend and holiday rotations. Self-scheduling is implemented to accommodate both unit and staff needs. Successful candidates must complete the required hospital orientation.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Deliver direct personal care to patients according to established care plans, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility. Accurately measure and document vital signs, height, and weight. Responsibilities may also include specimen collection, skin preparations, catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, basic wound care, and performing range of motion exercises.
2. Provide clinical support, which encompasses maintaining cleanliness in the work area, managing office equipment, troubleshooting software and hardware issues, changing linens, checking inventory, restocking supplies, and assisting in the orientation of new staff and students.
3. Assist healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
4. Reinforce educational material provided to patients by registered nurses or physicians, documenting patient comprehension of instructions and distributing educational resources as needed.
5. Offer administrative support, including participation in performance improvement audits and data entry tasks.
Education:
* High School diploma or GED required.
Licensure/Certification:
* Certification as Nursing Assistant II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
* Certification as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
* Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
* Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Experience:
* Minimum of three (3) months of relevant nursing assistant experience required.
Skills:
* Proficiency in verbal and written English, with basic computer skills.
