About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Instrument Technician to join our team at Trinity Health. As a key member of our operating room team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize strict aseptic technique to prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment.
  • Assemble and check functionality of suction systems and other equipment.
  • Clean, assemble, and label instruments for sterilization.
  • Operate flash sterilizers according to procedure, observing protocols for quality assurance.
  • Clean operating rooms and equipment following operative procedures.
  • Transport specimens, supplies, and equipment as directed.
  • Provide relief coverage for clerical or custodial staff, as needed.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of supplies in the operating rooms, rotating stock and checking for outdates.
  • Act as a teacher of job duties and responsibilities in staff orientation and development.
  • Practice within OSHA guidelines, e.g. body substance isolation.
  • Maintain the work area, hospital facilities, and equipment to reduce potential patient/associate injury or unsatisfactory patient outcome.
  • Observe hospital/department/work unit policies, procedures, rules, and standards.
  • Demonstrate good customer/supplier relations.
  • Complete mandatory in-service requirements.
  • Perform direct patient care activities within the scope of preparation and training.
  • Perform routine housekeeping chores, including trash/soiled linen disposal, damp dusting, and wiping down surfaces.
  • Perform related duties as required.
  • Maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships, approaching conflict in a constructive manner.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
  • Behave in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Health System.
  • Assume responsibility for the performance of job duties in the safest possible manner.
