Law Enforcement Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at the Harnett County Detention Center. As a detention officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of inmates, staff, and visitors within the facility.
About the RoleThis is a full-time position that requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and completion of the minimum requirements of Detention Officer Certification Training Standard established by the state of North Carolina for Detention Officers. You must also possess a valid North Carolina driver's license.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct searches, complete intake forms, photograph, and fingerprint inmates, as well as secure personal property.
- Oversee the security and activities of inmates, supervise meals and cleaning of facilities, distribute personal property, monitor medical status, and take action when illness or injury is suspected.
- Provide non-confidential inmate information to the public, attorney, and bond personnel, maintain files on inmates, search incoming property delivered to inmates, and verify visitor acceptance by inmate.
- Release inmates on bond due to court order or time served, ensure release papers are proper and complete, return personal property to individual, and complete forms providing required documentation of release.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws pertaining to inmate sentencing, pretrial conditions, and release.
- Knowledge of policies and procedures covering inmate security, classification, care, and discipline.
- Skill in dealing tactfully and firmly with inmates and the public.
- Skill in communicating, both verbally and in writing.

Working ConditionsThis role requires working in a hazardous and confining work environment, with exposure to various hazards such as noise, physical conditions, and close quarters. Employees may be assigned to work any shift and come into frequent contact with violent, suicidal, and mentally unstable inmates.
