Job Summary:

The Child Welfare Investigative Specialist plays a pivotal role in investigating reports of child abuse and neglect. This position requires strong analytical and communication skills to effectively conduct home visits, document interviews, and testify in court. The Specialist works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure thorough investigations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess and investigate reports of child abuse and neglect, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
  2. Conduct thorough home visits, document interactions, and collect relevant information.
  3. Testify in court regarding child welfare investigations.
  4. Provide assistance on high-profile cases involving allegations of child abuse resulting in serious injury or death.
  5. Attend various meetings, including high-profile staffing sessions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Arizona law related to special victims, forensics, homicide, domestic violence, and missing persons.
  • Familiarity with a multi-disciplinary approach, including Child and Family Advocacy Centers.
  • Understanding of child welfare practices and policies.
  • Ability to conduct high-profile, complex, and sensitive investigations.

Requirements:

  • 2 years of law enforcement, detective, or investigative experience specializing in crimes against children and sex crimes.
  • OR 18 months of experience as an Investigative DCS Specialist with the Arizona Department of Child Safety or any Child Safety State Agency.
