Job Summary

This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of agency vehicles, including diagnosing needed repairs, scheduling external repairs, and conducting routine inspections. The successful candidate will have a strong background in vehicle mechanics and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair vehicle issues, including mechanical and body repairs
  • Schedule external repairs and notify the Transportation Manager of any repairs over $200
  • Conduct routine inspections of agency-owned vehicles and address mechanical needs and body repairs
  • Perform repairs and upkeep of building and equipment, including the building generator
  • Assist with lawn maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and sidewalk snow removal
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and resources for vehicle repair and maintenance
  • Provide backup support to the Vehicle Operator Maintenance staff in processing and inputting data into the Mitchell 1 vehicle maintenance tracking system
  • Ensure proper inventory of needed parts and supplies, with a reasonable and prudent respect to budget
  • Assist in producing internal vehicle repair invoicing information and maintaining both internal and external vehicle invoices
  • Work with and provide required information to KDOT inspectors and follow up with repair of any KDOT-identified infractions within the required time frame
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Five years of vehicle mechanic experience preferred
  • Ability to push and pull weights in excess of 150 pounds on a regular basis
  • Valid driver's license
  • Pass a KDOT physical examination and pre-employment drug test
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling confidential information
  • Successful participation in the agency's drug and alcohol testing program
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work on concrete surfaces for long periods of time and to lift weights in excess of 60 pounds. The successful candidate will be required to pass a work fitness examination prior to employment in this position.
