Role Overview
The Compensation and Benefits practice group is seeking a qualified candidate with expertise in consulting on retirement plans, welfare plans, and executive compensation structures.
Typical Responsibilities
As a Senior Associate in Compensation and Benefits Taxation, your daily tasks may include:
- Providing expert consulting services related to compensation and benefits taxation and ERISA compliance.
- Evaluating tax and ERISA considerations for the establishment, implementation, and ongoing management of both single and multi-employer retirement and welfare benefit plans.
- Advising on tax-qualified and non-tax-qualified retirement plans and executive compensation arrangements, including 401(k) plans, traditional defined benefit plans, insured annuity programs, and nonqualified deferred compensation plans, as well as welfare benefit programs like insured medical plans and flexible spending accounts.
- Conducting research on complex tax and ERISA issues and preparing comprehensive written analyses.
- Monitoring and interpreting new legislative, regulatory, and administrative developments in compensation and benefits taxation and ERISA.
- Drafting communications and forms for employee benefit plan participants.
- Reviewing and negotiating service provider agreements related to ERISA plan investments and consulting services.
- Assisting with compliance filings for benefit plans with the IRS and DOL.
- Analyzing fiduciary issues and prohibited transactions related to benefit plans.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a J.D. (J.D. with LL.M. in Taxation preferred).
- A valid Certified Public Accountant license is preferred but not mandatory for J.D. holders.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in compensation and benefits taxation.
- In-depth knowledge of intricate compensation and benefits tax matters.
- Exceptional communication skills.
- The ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines through effective prioritization.
