The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for delivering high-quality, safe, and effective patient care through the analysis of biological samples from patients of all ages. This role involves managing all documentation related to testing and results, as well as facilitating communication between the laboratory and other departments, both verbally and in written form. The Specialist is expected to maintain a professional and collaborative relationship with all hospital departments, medical personnel, and the community, in alignment with the core values of UHS. Position Overview:
The Clinical Laboratory Specialist ensures compliance with regulatory standards for Point of Care testing. The laboratory conducts Point of Care testing across various departments within the hospital, necessitating a dedication to quality assurance and regulatory adherence. Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining competencies for all end users
- Reviewing quality control documentation
- Conducting instrument maintenance
- Analyzing patient testing outcomes
- Monitoring quality metrics
- Implementing quality improvement initiatives
- Developing and updating policies as required by CAP (College of American Pathologists)

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess Florida State licensure or be eligible as a Medical Technologist in accordance with Chapter 483. Licensure in specialties such as Microbiology, Serology/Immunology, Immunohematology, Clinical Chemistry, and/or Hematology is required based on the specific area of employment.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of one year of relevant experience as a Medical Technologist. ASCP certification is preferred.
Essential skills include:
- Strong interpersonal communication
- Proficiency in computer applications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology is preferred, or an associate-level qualification
