Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated School Age Assistant Teacher to join our team. As a School Age Assistant Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting the planning and implementation of our programming for children aged 5-13 years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Implementation of Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum

Assist in the development and implementation of curriculum that is tailored to the needs and interests of our children. This will involve working closely with our teaching staff to create engaging and interactive learning experiences that promote positive child development.

Facilitate Age-Appropriate Activities

Plan and implement a range of activities that are designed to meet the physical, emotional, and cognitive needs of our children. This will include arts and crafts, outdoor play, and educational programs.

Support Children's Social-Emotional Development

Work closely with our teaching staff to support the social-emotional development of our children. This will involve creating a safe and nurturing environment that encourages children to develop their self-awareness, self-regulation, and relationships skills.

Ensure Children's Safety and Wellbeing

Take responsibility for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our children at all times. This will involve supervising children during activities, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and responding to any incidents or emergencies that may arise.

Work Collaboratively with Colleagues

Work closely with our teaching staff to create a positive and supportive team environment. This will involve communicating effectively, sharing ideas and expertise, and working together to achieve our goals.

Requirements
  • Education and Qualifications

A minimum of 6 post-secondary semester units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field. Alternatively, a Regional Occupation Program certificate of training in child care issues and accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

Experience and Skills

6 months of experience in a group care environment where care/teaching was provided for a consistent age group. Effective problem-solving, conflict resolution, classroom management, and communication with children and families. Effective organization, time management, curriculum, and assessment documentation (lesson plans, portfolios, and anecdotal notes).

Certifications and Training

Current adult and infant/child CPR & First Aid certification is preferred. Bilingual/multilingual language preference based on individual center needs.
