Qualifications:
- Valid and active California Physician license from the Medical Board/Osteopathic Board
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Psychiatry from ABPN, AOBNP, or RCPSC
- Minimum of 12 consecutive months of relevant experience within the last 3 years
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive face-to-face assessments and crisis interventions for mentally ill individuals in a correctional setting, including those in multi-tiered housing units.
- Perform initial mental health evaluations, assessing criminal, psychiatric, and substance abuse histories to determine current needs and recommend appropriate treatment plans.
- Execute clinically sound suicide risk assessments, adhering to established protocols, reviewing relevant data, and documenting findings accurately.
- Participate actively in Interdisciplinary Treatment Team (IDTT) meetings, contributing to collaborative care planning.
- Maintain thorough documentation of all patient interactions, including face-to-face assessments and IDTT discussions.
- Monitor patient progress utilizing SOAPE-formatted progress notes, ensuring adherence to community psychiatric treatment standards and ethical practices.
- Conduct mental status examinations during clinical interviews, identifying pertinent signs and symptoms of medical and psychological disorders for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Review historical mental health records and other pertinent documents to support diagnosis and treatment strategies.
- Consult with supervising psychiatrists on complex cases and present findings at clinical conferences as necessary.
- Provide clinical guidance to psychiatric staff for intricate cases, ensuring comprehensive care delivery.
- Prescribe appropriate medications in accordance with Correctional Formulary guidelines or seek non-formulary approval when required.
- Interpret laboratory results and coordinate referrals to medical services as needed.
- Determine necessary psychiatric and general medical treatments, adjusting prescriptions as indicated.
