Job Responsibilities:
Engagement in mechanical engineering design and production assistance from project initiation through to construction completion. Proficient in both Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build project delivery methods. Responsibilities include providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, as well as reviewing the work of fellow mechanical engineers for compliance with codes and constructability standards.
- Ability to estimate design efforts and assist in negotiations with Architectural-Engineering firms and General Contractors.
- Review contractor submissions and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
Qualifications and Expertise Required:
Demonstrated design and technical proficiency in developing comprehensive Construction Documents, which include drawings and specifications for both new and renovation projects.
Accountable for ensuring professional quality, technical accuracy, and the coordination of all designs, drawings, specifications, and associated services, including inter-discipline coordination.
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited institution.
Experience and Knowledge:
A minimum of five (5) years of specialized experience in mechanical and plumbing schematic design, design development, and evaluation of both new and existing commercial, industrial, and healthcare facilities, particularly those prevalent in the NAVFAC Washington Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Proficient in AUTOCAD with a solid understanding of the design and review of primary Air and Water Side and steam Mechanical systems. Familiarity with mechanical applications software for ductwork and piping system sizing is essential. Capable of designing DDC control systems, including the production of operational sequences, point lists, and control diagrams.
Knowledgeable in SpecIntact and capable of producing and editing specifications for design projects. Familiar with the latest UFCs, UFGS, NFPA, and International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes. Practical experience with construction site visits and the ability to generate field progress reports as necessary.
Ability to provide engineering solutions to challenges as requested by the Government.
