About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled RF Systems Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. As an RF Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in the development of innovative algorithms for surface radar and electronic warfare (EW) maritime electromagnetic systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze and model complex surface maritime radar and EW problems to develop creative solutions.
  • Collaborate with team members to understand limitations of current and future RF systems and provide reports and recommendations on new concepts and future capabilities.
  • Develop formal proposals for new ideas and submit bids for APL Internal Research and Development funding or other organizational grants.
  • Participate in internal and external test and evaluation and data collection events.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or another related discipline.
  • Professional experience in advanced signal processing, communications engineering, and radar/EW engineering/analysis.
  • Working knowledge of RF propagation, RF signal processing, radar cross section (RCS), RF filtering, transmitter and receiver fundamentals, and antennas.
  • Matlab experience in modeling, data analysis, and development of algorithms for complex systems.
  • Programming experience in Python, C++, or Java.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Top Secret level security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, or another related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of national intelligence databases.
  • Demonstrated experience in radar waveform design, target detection, and tracking.
  • Experience leading and performing technical studies and analyses, modeling and simulation of advanced RF, communications, or signal processing applications.
  • Experience working with electronic warfare (EW), intelligence sensors, surveillance radars, over-the-horizon radar, or other electromagnetic systems.
  • Experience using RF test and measurement equipment and familiarity with GNU Radio and/or VHDL/Verliog.
  • Active DoD Secret or higher clearance.
