Job Overview

The City of Murphy Municipal Court is seeking a dedicated Municipal Court Security Officer to ensure safety and compliance within the court environment. In this role, you will be responsible for providing law enforcement and protective services to safeguard court personnel and the public, while upholding the principles of integrity and respect.

Role Responsibilities

As a Municipal Court Security Officer, you will:

• Conduct patrols to maintain security within the Municipal Court and its offices.

• Safeguard judges, attorneys, and other court personnel from potential threats, ensuring courtroom safety and adherence to procedures.

• Facilitate the smooth operation of court sessions by managing court dockets, checking in defendants, witnesses, and jurors.

• Escort individuals to designated areas during trials and monitor for prohibited items entering the courtroom.

• Provide assistance and information to defendants and the public regarding court services.

• Collaborate effectively with supervisors and colleagues, keeping them informed of relevant activities.

• Review and suggest improvements to security and operational procedures.

• Enforce City Ordinances, State and Federal laws, and court policies.

• Process legal documents as directed by the court.

• Maintain physical fitness and proficiency in safety protocols.

• Attend training sessions to enhance skills and meet mandatory requirements.

Qualifications

Education
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time police experience within the last five (5) years.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Must be licensed or able to obtain licensure as a peace officer in Texas.
  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License required.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Familiarity with law enforcement regulations and courtroom procedures.
  • Understanding of evidentiary handling and legal compliance.
This position is part-time and does not include benefits.
