Counselor I

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Counselor I to join our team at the Department of Mental Health. As a Counselor I, you will provide peer support services to individuals in the community, promoting recovery and community crisis stabilization. You will work as a member of the Mobile Crisis team, serving as a role model of recovery and promoting recovery and community crisis stabilization in community settings.

Responsibilities:

• Provide peer support services to individuals in the community, promoting recovery and community crisis stabilization.
• Work as a member of the Mobile Crisis team, serving as a role model of recovery.
• Promote recovery and community crisis stabilization in community settings.
• Provide post-crisis follow-up contacts with individuals/families receiving Mobile Crisis services.
• Provide crisis preventative services through outreach and recovery support to individuals identified as high risk by local mental health center.
• Promote community engagement with community supports for high-risk individuals to address psychosocial needs.
• Complete all DMH required trainings and those required to obtain and maintain certification as a Certified Peer Support Specialist.

Requirements:

• High school diploma AND relevant human services or social services experience.
• A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required experience.
• Must be a current/former consumer of mental health services.
• Must possess valid SC Driver's License.
• Must have good computer skills and ability to work set schedule determined by the Center.
• Knowledge of recovery. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
