Position Overview

The role of the Food Service Worker involves performing essential tasks under direct supervision to prepare, serve, and store a variety of food items, including vegetables, salads, sliced meats, baked goods, and desserts. The position requires the ability to lift moderately heavy items.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute routine tasks such as cutting, mixing, preparing, serving, and storing food items.
  • Assist in the preparation of salads, desserts, vegetables, sandwiches, and cold plates.
  • Ensure timely setup and breakdown of work areas as directed.
  • Conduct routine cleaning and sanitation tasks as assigned.
  • Support the training of student employees in the designated work area.
  • Contribute to the execution of catered events as needed.
  • Take orders, portion, and serve food to patrons.
  • Perform additional duties during slower periods, including semester breaks and holidays.
  • Fulfill all other reasonable tasks as assigned.

Supervision

The Food Service Worker reports to the chef manager in the assigned unit, receiving functional direction from the unit chef, first cook, and/or lead food service worker.

Compensation

The hourly wage for this position ranges from $19 to $24.

Qualifications

Education: A high school diploma is preferred; relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements.

Experience: A consistent employment history is essential.

Skills: Proficiency in reading and writing English is required. The candidate must effectively operate in a fast-paced environment with a diverse team, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be capable of using basic kitchen equipment. The ability to lift moderately heavy objects, up to 50 pounds, on a continuous basis is necessary.
