Principal Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled professional who exhibits exceptional leadership qualities, excels in building collaborative partnerships, and thrives in a culture of continuous improvement. This position will leverage these competencies to enhance SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) metrics within our investment casting facility, collaborating closely with the operations leadership and various support teams. The casting engineer will operate with a degree of independence, holding technical accountability for all equiax casting operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and oversee production methodologies, including tooling and machinery. Confirm design specifications and the practical application of new products, tools, or equipment on the shop floor.
- Employ extensive knowledge of casting techniques, analytical reasoning, and technical expertise to implement policies and strategies effectively.
- Possess awareness of industry best practices and understand how one's area of expertise integrates with others; stay informed about competitors and the distinguishing factors in the marketplace.
- Utilize sound judgment to propose and implement diverse solutions beyond established parameters to tackle complex manufacturing challenges with technical diversity and interdependent production cycles. Draw on technical knowledge and analytical skills, consulting multiple internal and external resources to make informed decisions.
- Serve as a mentor for less experienced colleagues.
- Identify and manage capital investment initiatives.
- Lead projects with moderate risk and resource demands. Communicate effectively; develop skills to guide team members toward consensus on relevant topics. Articulate performance expectations and address sensitive matters as needed.
- Collaborate with Design Engineering to enhance the manufacturability of castings for both existing products and new product introductions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years of experience in casting-related processes (preferably equiax castings) and at least 3 years of casting process experience.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in casting-related processes (preferably equiax castings).
- Familiarity with wax, soluble, and ceramic core die design sufficient to communicate requirements to tooling design teams.
- Experience with RP pattern applications in a New Product Introduction (NPI) context (SLA, printed wax, etc.).
- Comprehensive knowledge of equiax casting processes, including wax injection, shell slurry formulation, mold wrapping, pre-heating/pouring temperatures, post-casting processes, heat treatment, and NDT (FPI/X-ray).
- General understanding of the operational capabilities of an equiax casting foundry to guide design engineering during NPI initiatives.
- Proficient in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects effectively.
- Strong communication skills for engaging with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience with high-temperature alloys (INCO 625, INCO 718, Rene 41, etc.).
- Capability to analyze available data to pinpoint project focus areas aimed at enhancing product yield, reducing lead times, and minimizing costs.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
