Phlebotomist PRN Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist PRN to join our Laboratory team at St. Mark's Hospital. As a Phlebotomist, you will play a vital role in providing excellent patient care through compassionate, professional interactions and reliable testing.

Responsibilities:
  • Receives orders from nursing units or physicians and enters requests on the computer.
  • Travels to patient sites to obtain specimens and performs venipuncture and skin punctures according to established aseptic techniques.
  • Instructs patients in specimen collection methods and procedures.
  • Labels and records specimens, transports them to the laboratory, and distributes them to the appropriate laboratory area for analysis.
  • Follows guidelines to maintain safety for oneself, patients, visitors, and co-workers.
Requirements:
  • Previous healthcare experience, with laboratory experience and knowledge of aseptic methods and basic medical terminology preferred.
  • Good communication skills and analytical skills to select the best site for obtaining blood and bacteriological specimens.
  • Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification and minimum 6 months of phlebotomy experience or completion of a phlebotomy training program.
  • Excellent communication, people, and problem-solving skills, as well as computer skills and filing/clerical skills.
  • American Red Cross or American Heart Association Basic Life Support Course (BLS or BCLS) and Certification within 30 days of hire.
