About the Job

The City of Friendswood is seeking a highly skilled Utility Maintenance Worker to join our Public Works Department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and repair water and wastewater treatment facilities using various tools and equipment.
  • Raise manholes, valve boxes, and meter boxes using hand tools and masonry tools.
  • Expose, cut, remove, and replace or clamp damaged sewer lines or water lines using hand tools.
  • Tap mainlines, install saddles, and connect water service to meter.
  • Repair and install fittings, valves, hydrants, and other appurtenances associated with water distribution on lines from 3"-24".
  • Operate light trucks to transport crew members, equipment, and materials to worksites.
  • Clear clogged sewer lines using a water jet rodder.
  • Tap mainlines, install saddles, and connect sewer lines to residences.
  • Repair and install taps, fittings, manholes, and other appurtenances associated with sanitary sewer collection on lines from 4"-24".
  • Perform light mechanical repairs such as oil and filter changes.
  • Provide emergency response to repair or maintain equipment or systems after normal working hours.
  • Perform other duties within areas of responsibility and ability, as assigned.
  • Fulfill on-call responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Six months to one year of related experience.
  • Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Grade "D" certificate in the water.
  • Class "I" Collection license.

This position may require 24-hour availability in emergency situations.
