Position Overview

The Apprentice Mechanic collaborates with a skilled Mechanic to learn and execute maintenance and repair tasks as outlined in the Mechanic role. It is essential to become acquainted with all relevant building licenses and certifications. Candidates must provide a current and updated home contact number. In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, there may be a requirement to respond to emergencies on a 24-hour basis and to work overtime as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Apprentice Mechanic will support maintenance and repair activities.
  • May undertake tasks with limited supervision as part of the training process.
  • Responsible for delivering tools and materials to the work site.
  • Assist in setting up and dismantling equipment, ensuring it is cleaned and stored properly after use.
  • Maintain cleanliness at the job site.
  • In accordance with the Transport Workers Union, Local 241 Collective Bargaining Agreement, responsibilities include: Repairs and Maintenance, Boiler Room (excluding Power House), and Preventive Maintenance.
  • Perform all related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Must successfully complete the Mechanic Aptitude Test.
  • Physical fitness is necessary for extensive walking, stair climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), moving heavier objects with assistive devices, and performing overhead work.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety regulations, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals.
