We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Peer Specialist to join our Addiction Response Team in Northern Colorado. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in expanding harm reduction services in the region, working closely with local providers and community agencies.

About the Role

As a Peer Specialist, you will utilize your lived experience to support individuals struggling with substance use disorder, providing education, outreach, and connection to harm reduction services, treatment, and recovery resources. You will work collaboratively with our Addiction Response Team, SummitStone Health Partners, and other local providers to advance harm reduction education and syringe access programs in the region.

The ideal candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, experience working with persons who have an addiction, and cultural competence particularly concerning substance-related stigma and poverty. A minimum of 2 years of active personal recovery is required, as well as basic computer skills for navigating electronic medical record systems and data collection tools.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate educational presentations and marketing in the community, including individual and group level interventions, outreach events, and other materials.
  • Provide in-person support during the operation of the syringe access program, including safe disposal, distribution of syringes and safe injection/snorting supplies, overdose education, data entry, and intakes.
  • Represent NCHA at community events and collaborative meetings as needed.
  • Maintain current understanding of overdose, treatment, and recovery best practices in addition to HIV/HCV prevention issues and trends; participate in additional trainings when offered.
Requirements
  • Minimum 2 years in active personal recovery.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with persons who have an addiction, especially those with opioid use disorder.
  • Cultural competence concerning substance-related stigma and poverty.
  • Basic computer skills for navigation through electronic medical record systems and data collection tools.
