Correctional Facility Security Specialist

**Job Summary**

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly skilled Correctional Facility Security Specialist to maintain security in our adult correctional facilities. This role requires a strong ability to intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders. The successful candidate will also supervise the movement of offenders inside and outside the facility, conduct periodic counts, and search offenders and their living quarters for contraband.

**Key Responsibilities**

* Supervise offenders in housing units, during work activities, and during recreational and religious activities
* Conduct inspections for health and safety hazards and prepare reports on offender violations and unusual behaviors
* Discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders and refer serious problems to proper correctional facility staff
* Promote rehabilitation by modifying offender social attitudes and discouraging undesirable behaviors

**Requirements**

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and make sound decisions in emergency situations
* High school diploma or equivalent required; degree in a related field preferred
