Early Interventionist Job Description

The University of Tennessee at Martin is seeking a qualified applicant for the full-time position of Early Interventionist in the Department of Child and Family Grant Programs.

This role involves delivering services using the Family Guided Routines Based Intervention (FGRBI) model for service delivery. Services are provided in Benton, Carroll, Henry, Lake, Obion, and Weakley Counties.

The Early Interventionist will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining an average caseload of 20 service hours.
  • Providing individual intervention within the child and family's natural environment for infants and young children who have developmental delays or who are at risk for delays in the areas of cognitive, adaptive, social-emotional, self-care, fine motor, gross motor, and communication development.
  • Helping families support child development by coaching and providing information and resources to guide decision making and to help caregivers and children grow and learn together.
  • Coaching caregivers to engage their young children in learning as they participate in everyday routines and activities that are meaningful to them.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of child development ages birth to 5 years of age.
  • Building knowledge of strategies and common diagnosed conditions and how these affect a child's development.
  • Teamwork with Tennessee's Early Intervention System staff to ensure each family receives quality and individualized services that they need.
  • Attending regular staff meetings, in-service training, and other meetings and conferences as required.
  • Consistently and accurately completing all data entries pertaining to services and contact logs for each individual child as required by the agency in a timely manner.
  • Attending, participating, and providing supporting documentation for Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) review meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following: early childhood special education, early childhood education, child and family studies (child development), early intervention, deaf education or visual disabilities, special education K-12, elementary education, communication disorders, speech language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and/or related field.
  • Two years of experience working with or providing services to children and families.
  • Knowledge of infant and child development.
  • Working knowledge of disabilities and diagnosed conditions affecting infants and children.
  • Experience and willingness to work with culturally diverse populations that are present among the program's target population of children and families.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of home visitation experience.
  • Working knowledge of Family Guided Routines Based Intervention (FGRBI) model.
