Job Summary:

As a Surgical Technician at Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient execution of surgical procedures. Under the guidance of surgeons, nurses, and other designated personnel, you will be responsible for preparing the operating room and patient for surgery, setting up sterile equipment and instruments, and assisting with scrubbing and preparation of the sterile field.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare the operating room and patient for surgery by applying principles and techniques of asepsis
  • Set up sterile equipment, instruments, drapes, and solutions
  • Assist with scrubbing, preparation of sterile field, gowning/gloving members of the surgical team
  • Provide safe handling and care for instruments and specimens
  • Operate sterilization devices, including autoclaves and other types of sterilizers
  • Identify emergencies and initiate or participate in the appropriate response
  • Stock and replenish the operating room with new sterile items and check equipment for proper function
Requirements:
  • Graduation from a surgical technology program accredited through the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology (ARC-ST)
  • A minimum of six months operating room work experience or graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Registration with the State of Washington (if classified as Surgical Technician)
  • Current certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists (if classified as Surgical Technician, Certified)
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification
