Early Childhood Lead Teacher Job Description
The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago is seeking a qualified Early Childhood Lead Teacher to join our team. As an Early Childhood Lead Teacher, you will be responsible for providing effective instructional strategies, classroom management, and learning experiences for children aged 3 to 5 years old.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement high-quality, developmentally appropriate lesson plans that align with the Illinois Early Learning Standards.
- Provide a supportive and positive classroom climate that encourages children's independence and self-selection of activities.
- Supervise children assigned to the classroom and maintain awareness of their physical health and safety at all times.
- Communicate and develop effective partnerships with parents and families, encouraging parent involvement and promoting a sense of community.
- Collaborate with the classroom team, including families, volunteers, and staff, to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
- Collect and use multiple data sources to inform instruction and child-centered learning and development.
- Complete routine professional development annually and participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
- Participate in the development of plans for ongoing growth and improved quality of services to children and families.
- Monitor and maintain a safe and clean classroom environment, adhering to DCFS and YMCA standards.
Requirements:
- Must meet DCFS licensing and program-related accreditation/credentialing requirements.
- Must have a minimum of 21 hours of college credit in child development, early childhood education, or early childhood special education.
- Three years' experience teaching or equivalent in a preschool classroom is strongly preferred.
- Must provide documentation of Gateways credentialing or apply within 90 days of employment.
- Knowledge of high-quality curriculum approaches, such as the Creative Curriculum, is preferred.
Child Abuse Prevention:
- Supports the YMCA's commitment to child abuse prevention by reporting any items that may provide a health or safety hazard to staff, members, or guests.
- Follows all policies and procedures related to keeping children safe in our facilities and programs.
- Reports any suspicious behavior and violation of policy and procedures to the supervisor.
- Completes all child abuse prevention training as required.
Qualifications:
