Position Overview

The Personal Care Nurse is accountable for delivering individualized nursing services within a school environment, aimed at enhancing health, managing medical needs, and supporting academic success.


*Fingerprinting is a prerequisite for employment in a school setting. Candidates not already fingerprinted must be prepared to complete this process upon hiring.
This role is specifically for a 1:1 private duty nursing requirement.Key Responsibilities
- Deliver nursing services to designated school districts
- Conduct health assessments and evaluate the developmental status of students to establish nursing diagnoses and prioritize actions
- Communicate health and developmental evaluations to school staff, parents, and students as appropriate.

- Act as a health resource within the educational curriculum and collaborate with faculty to design and implement health education initiatives.

- Provide educational resources to parents regarding student health needs
- Participate in the formulation of Health Plans and attend relevant school meetings as necessary. - Deliver care, delegate tasks, and educate others according to the established care plan while adhering to the guidance of physicians, nursing supervisors, school representatives, and/or parents.
- Engage in ongoing education as required for licensure and participate in training offered by Aveanna.
- Demonstrate behaviors that uphold and promote the rights and overall well-being of students.

- Adhere to Aveanna and school district policies and procedures that impact student health, safety, and welfare within the school setting.

- Report any alterations in the student's mental, physical, or environmental conditions (including incidents) to the physician, nursing supervisor, school representative, and parents as applicable.
- Identify and report signs of substance abuse, physical abuse, or neglect.
- Ensure a clean and safe environment within the school, including the proper use of equipment.
- Determine suitable methods for the storage of equipment, supplies, and medications.
- Maintain and coordinate nursing standards while overseeing a comprehensive school health program.
- Implement preventive and rehabilitative measures while conducting nursing assessments and screenings to promote safety and health for all.
- Execute treatments and procedures with proficiency and competence.
- Follow physician orders for any invasive procedures and/or skills.
- Administer medications according to physician orders and/or parental consent.
- Provide individualized teaching and training to students and others to foster student independence when appropriate.
- Collaborate, coordinate, and supervise services with others to support academic goals and meet individual student needs.
- Accurately document services rendered in accordance with agency policies and procedures on the day of service.
- Submit nursing documentation, logs, reports, and timesheets promptly and in compliance with policy.

Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate, or Baccalaureate Nursing Program
- Current, unrestricted state license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice
- Current CPR certification
- Current Basic Life Support certification
- Proven proficiency in clinical assessments, documentation, and adherence to nursing care policies and procedures.

Additional State-Specific Requirements:
- Continuing Education as mandated by state regulations.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in pediatrics is preferred.
