Key Responsibilities

  • Control and coordinate train movements while switching railcars in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Inspect locomotives before and after runs to verify compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements.
  • Read and interpret wayside signals, track warrants, and bulletins to operate locomotives safely and efficiently.
  • Communicate with crew members and other yard workers via radio to exchange switching information.
  • Confer with train dispatchers via radio to issue or receive information or instructions concerning stops, delays, or oncoming trains.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required.

Requirements

  • High school education or general education development (GED).
  • Ability to pass training and required testing.
