About the Role
The City of Charlotte is seeking a skilled Street Maintenance Crew Member to join our team. As a key member of our crew, you will be responsible for performing unskilled/semi-skilled work, including compacting, installing, leveling, and finishing materials, constructing and maintaining roadways, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform heavy manual labor, working with concrete, asphalt, gravel, dirt, bricks, grout, and other materials.
- Construct and maintain roadways, sidewalks, and storm drainage systems.
- Operate heavy machinery and equipment, such as rakes, shovels, and concrete tools.
- Work in a fast-paced environment, often in extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve common goals and ensure the safety of the crew.
Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire.
- Must have the ability to obtain a City Driving permit at time of hire.
- Must be 18 or turning 18 on or before June 13, 2024.
- Must have graduated, or will be graduating from high school in summer of 2024, and received a high school diploma.
- Must be able to pass a reference check, background check, medical physical, and drug test.
Working Conditions
- Work shall require shift or irregular hours determined at the discretion of the supervisor.
- Outdoor environment - working in various weather conditions and in unconditioned warehouse facilities will be required as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Computer experience preferred; including but not limited to typing, word documents, spreadsheets, and work order management system.
