Position Summary
We are in search of a skilled and dynamic individual to take on the role of Director for our Agile Project Management Office (PMO). This position entails the development of a contemporary and highly efficient framework that integrates personnel, processes, and tools to guarantee timely project delivery, adherence to scope, and alignment with our strategic goals. The Director will collaborate closely with product delivery teams to facilitate rapid delivery while establishing a robust IT governance framework for effective decision-making and project oversight. A strategic mindset, coupled with a profound understanding of agile methodologies and a commitment to fostering a culture of continuous improvement, is essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establishment and Development of APMO:
Drive consensus among APMO stakeholders and organizational leaders regarding the mission and vision of the APMO, promoting an agile mindset while enhancing product and project-oriented capabilities aligned with value delivery. - Leadership Engagement:
Collaborate with senior leadership and business partners to define APMO objectives and operational models, encapsulated in the APMO charter or mission statement. - Team Development:
Lead the identification and formation of APMO roles, team structures, and recruitment efforts to achieve established APMO goals and objectives.
Methodological Expertise:
- Identify and implement project management processes, methodologies, tools, guidelines, and standards to create a stable framework that supports all project teams and stakeholders, thereby enhancing the likelihood of successful project outcomes.
- Develop and guide agile practices, establishing systems and processes that sustain high-performing teams.
- Facilitate planning and prioritization processes in collaboration with leadership and governance.
- Define and manage the comprehensive APMO work effort, leveraging best practices to identify, quantify, and track the realization of anticipated benefits.
- Ensure consistency in operating methodologies and associated processes across Adtalem Global Education.
Coaching and Relationship Building:
- Provide ongoing coaching and mentorship to APMO staff and leadership as required.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with senior leadership and key APMO stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor.
- Establish a project management and/or agile community of practice (CoP) to promote collaboration and best-practice sharing among APMO practitioners.
- Instill a culture of learning to continuously evaluate and adapt methodologies and efficiencies.
- Support goal coaches and KPI leaders to ensure alignment with organizational values.
- Ensure synchronization with cross-departmental roadmaps, creating a unified plan to manage dependencies.
Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
- Regularly assess and evaluate opportunities to enhance project management best practices, striving for higher maturity in project portfolio management (PPM).
- Continuously evolve and improve the interdependencies between business models and operational practices, integrating various delivery models into a cohesive strategy that meets changing business needs.
- Engage the organization to ensure ongoing feedback and identify emerging methodology and alignment requirements.
Performance Assessment:
- Evaluate enterprise or portfolio performance through metrics and reporting, supporting the organization's shift towards a value-based operating model.
- Ensure strategic alignment through prioritization, resource capacity management, key result tracking, and program management to realize the strategic vision.
- Manage and optimize the flow of value throughout the organization.
- Track and communicate essential organizational metrics.
- Identify and address organizational impediments, escalating issues as necessary.
Vendor and Partner Oversight:
- Oversee vendor selection, contract negotiations, and performance management to ensure quality and timely project delivery.
- Foster collaborative relationships with vendors and partners to support project success.
- Perform additional duties as assigned and comply with all organizational policies and standards.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business, Information Technology, Project Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in an agile environment.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing an Agile PMO within a large, complex organization.
- Strong knowledge of agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Lean) and tools (JIRA, Confluence, etc.).
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strategic thinking ability and a proven track record of driving organizational change.
- Experience in vendor management, including contract negotiation and performance oversight.
- PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, or similar certifications are highly desirable.
