As researchers handle increasing volumes of data, the Data Management Specialist will support them by managing data, ensuring compliance, and consulting on large-scale data projects. This role requires strong organizational skills for requirements solicitation, roadmap development, and milestone coordination.

The successful candidate will serve as the primary contact for data management services within Research Computing, assisting researchers in selecting and integrating appropriate storage solutions. They will also lead compliance assessments for data with regulatory requirements, collaborating with other units to establish suitable environments.

This position involves advising UVA faculty on storage platforms, handling sensitive data, interpreting data-use agreements, and developing data transfer workflows. Additionally, the Data Management Specialist will collaborate with research teams on data staging, permissions controls, and access management on RC systems.

To be successful in this role, candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field emphasizing process or project management and at least 7 years of relevant work experience. Additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Candidates should possess adaptability to diverse researchers and disciplines, as well as a collaborative nature with the ability to build relationships with researchers and support team members. US citizenship or permanent residency is required due to working with RC's high-security data environments.

The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check prior to their first day of employment per University policy.

Key Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field emphasizing process or project management.
  • At least 7 years of relevant work experience.
  • Additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong organizational skills for requirements solicitation, roadmap development, and milestone coordination.
  • Adaptability to diverse researchers and disciplines.
  • Collaborative nature with the ability to build relationships with researchers and support team members.
  • US citizenship or permanent residency required.

Anticipated Hiring Range: $100,000 - $125,000 annually.
