Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Sports Coordinator to join our team at the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg. As a Sports Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing guidance and leadership in a group setting to all participants, assisting and monitoring sports programming, and maintaining equipment and sports facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the health, safety, and well-being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
  • Set up programming and assist in instruction and activities for children ages 3-15.
  • Maintain accurate program documentation.
  • Follow the designed sports curriculum and assist in the management of sports rules for all ages.
  • Maintain required tracking, attendance, and paperwork.
  • Instruct youth about all aspects of the sport.
  • Responsible for the use and proper storage of all equipment.
  • Communicate with the supervisor any challenges or issues regarding program participants and facilities.
  • Prepare the learning environment and the necessary equipment.
  • Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; some college preferred.
  • Minimum of one year experience in sports officiating or organization, especially with children.
  • At least 18 years of age.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight and sports equipment.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
  • Assist with implementing rules and regulations of all youth sports programming.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
