Advanced Practice Nurse

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) to join our Orthopedic Team at the Clement J. Zablocki VA Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a key member of our team, you will provide direct patient care to our Veterans, working collaboratively with our healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.
Responsibilities- Participate in clinics, seeing postoperative and other patients as needed, and provide continuity of patient care between outpatient and inpatient venues.
- Complete patient assessments, including history and physical exams, and order diagnostic tests as indicated.
- Support the Advanced Clinic Access (ACA) principles to improve clinic flow, reduce the number of visits per unique patient, and improve patient wait times.
- Prescribe medications, diet, supplies, prosthetic devices, and home health aids according to clinical privileges.
- Coordinate special order items and off-station testing as needed.
- Teach and counsel patients and families in preventive care, medical conditions, and plan of care, and intervene with optimal treatment for patients and families.
- Participate on interdisciplinary councils, task forces, and committees as assigned.
- Participate in clinical research relevant to the Orthopedic patient population.
- Assist in the collection of data and implementing system changes.
- Master's or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted APN license to practice as an NP in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
- Basic Certification from a nationally recognized certifying body in the area of clinical specialty.
- At least one year of specialized APN experience equivalent to the Nurse II grade level.
- Current or previous experience with managing orthopedic outpatient and inpatient care.
- Experience with joint injections.
This is a full-time position, working Monday through Friday, with no telework or virtual options available.
