Billings Flying Service (BFS) is a premier provider in the aviation sector, focusing on CH-47 aerial firefighting and heavy lift operations. With over 35 years of expertise in both fixed-wing and rotorcraft, BFS is equipped to tackle complex aviation challenges.

Since its inception in 1997, BFS has deployed firefighting helicopters globally, including regions such as Chile, Indonesia, South Korea, and the United States. The fleet, which includes CH-47Ds and UH-60As, is adept at combating wildfires using either buckets or tanks. The aircraft are serviced through BFS's FAA 145 repair station, supported by a skilled workforce.


BFS operates a FAA 145, AS9110, and Boeing certified maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility dedicated to the CH-47 Chinook. Established in 2019, this MRO facility serves the BFS Chinook fleet, commercial CH-47 clients, the United States military, and international military operations. The facility specializes in CH-47 drivetrain, dynamics, hydraulics, actuation, and flight control systems.

Position Summary

We are in search of an A&P Helicopter Mechanic to assist with our CH-47 fleet operations. This role will require travel for extended periods, with accommodations and per diem provided by the employer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain effective communication with the crew supervisor to report on aircraft maintenance status and plan for future maintenance tasks.
  • Execute and document maintenance and modifications on aircraft airframes, engines, and components following the BFS Maintenance Procedures Manual, approved inspection protocols, manufacturer’s maintenance manuals, and applicable regulations.
  • Ensure that all company aircraft meet the airworthiness standards set forth by relevant regulations.
  • Provide after-hours maintenance support for assigned aircraft as needed.
  • Accurately document and address aircraft discrepancies during revenue service and major inspection events.
  • Complete and maintain all aircraft maintenance records and associated documentation in compliance with BFS policies and federal aviation regulations.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of federal aviation regulations, maintenance procedures, operations manuals, and other relevant documentation.
  • Ensure all company and personal calibrated tools are within calibration limits when utilized.
  • Maintain company-owned Ground Support Equipment (GSE).
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in reading and writing English.
  • Must pass airport security background checks and be willing to travel for work.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Possession of a valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant License is required.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers dexterously, climb, balance, bend, or crawl, including working at heights.
  • Ability to frequently lift, push, or carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Awareness of working near moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or toxic chemicals, and loud noise environments.
  • Ability to operate equipment and interpret technical information.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
  • Preferred: 5+ years of experience working on CH-47D or other Boeing aircraft types.
  • Preferred Qualifications: FAA A&P License, experience with rotorcraft.
