Position Summary:

A Flatbed Truck Driver plays a crucial role in the transportation of heavy machinery within the construction sector. This position is responsible for the safe delivery of various construction equipment to multiple job sites while ensuring all documentation is accurately maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and protocols.
  • Safely operate, load, and unload construction equipment.
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge and skills in operating commercial motor vehicles and associated equipment.
  • Drive semi-trucks with trailers in compliance with state regulations, ensuring safe transport to designated locations while observing traffic laws.
  • Plan the most efficient routes considering load weight, road conditions, and traffic.
  • Maintain accurate time and material records through daily logs.
  • Follow both verbal and written instructions diligently.
  • Exhibit strong maneuvering and backing skills.
  • Connect and disconnect trailers as needed.
  • Monitor and manage trip permits, ensuring all necessary documentation is available during transport.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections in accordance with DOT regulations.
  • Ensure vehicle safety through daily inspections of tires, lights, signals, and other essential components.
  • Prepare the vehicle for the next day’s operations, including refueling and pre-loading when feasible.
  • Maintain the appearance of company trucks and trailers, scheduling repairs as necessary.
  • Prioritize personal safety and the safety of coworkers and surroundings.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Observe all traffic laws consistently.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred; vocational training is highly regarded.
  • Preferred candidates will have relevant educational credentials from recognized institutions.
  • 2-5 years of experience in hauling heavy equipment and oversized loads, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a Class A CDL with Tankers and Hazmat endorsements.
  • Meet Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and medical standards and pass substance abuse screening.
  • A clean driving record is essential.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to apply common sense in executing job functions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work is required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Capable of performing physical tasks such as sitting, walking, lifting, reaching, and standing, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and environments.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Ability to perform strenuous physical labor and other demanding tasks.
