Orthopedic Advanced Practice Provider - Piedmont Health System
Position Overview
As an integral member of the healthcare team, the Advanced Practice Provider in Orthopedics plays a vital role in delivering comprehensive patient care. This position focuses on health promotion, as well as the management of both acute and chronic conditions. Collaborating closely with physicians, the provider will deliver medical services, gather and document patient data, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and ensure direct patient care, including physical examinations, diagnoses, and treatment plans. The role also includes assisting in surgical procedures and managing post-operative care.
Work Environment
This role involves responsibilities in both outpatient settings and hospital rounds.
Availability for Nights and Weekends is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to identify medical and surgical issues, prescribing necessary treatments to ensure high-quality patient care. Review diagnostic tests and take appropriate actions within the scope of practice. Engage in research activities as a Primary Investigator or Sub-Investigator in clinical trials.
- Gather patient histories, perform physical examinations, and document findings in patient records; create progress notes and summaries highlighting significant clinical findings; obtain psychosocial histories relevant to patient care, fostering therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Order and interpret laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures; communicate the necessity, preparation, and expected outcomes of these procedures to patients. Secure informed consent and liaise with specialists as required.
- Execute therapeutic interventions such as cast application and removal, wound suturing, and dressing changes; monitor patient progress, report findings to supervising physicians, and maintain comprehensive records of patient progress, consulting with supervising physicians when necessary.
- Formulate diagnoses and develop treatment plans for patients. Provide education on disease management and promote healthy lifestyle choices. Conduct follow-up examinations post-procedures, hospitalizations, or surgeries.
- Offer clinical expertise and serve as a resource for office staff in the absence of physicians.

Requirements
Qualified candidates will possess a minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, with preference given to those with experience in orthopedic settings.
A Master's or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited PA program and National Board Certification is required.
Alternatively, candidates must be licensed as a Nurse and authorized to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Georgia, holding National Certification.
Additional Certifications
CPR/ACLS certification is required.
