The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, specifically the Department of Radiation Oncology, is looking for a skilled Radiation Therapist to administer ionizing radiation to patients, following the directives and guidelines set forth by the radiation oncologist.

Key responsibilities include ensuring radiation therapy safety across all clinical settings, as well as providing functional instruction and oversight to students.



Primary Responsibilities:
  • Execute intricate radiation therapy procedures and manage equipment operations.
  • Fulfill the duties of a radiation therapy technologist as necessary.
  • Collaborate with dosimetrists and radiation physicists to perform treatment parameter calculations and computerized dosimetry.
  • Deliver educational instruction to radiation therapy technology students and assist in their assessment.
  • Fabricate personalized immobilization devices and shielding forms.
  • Maintain communication with Radiation Therapy residents and attending physicians regarding scheduling and technological concerns.
  • Assist in procuring supplies and upholding quality control in line with hospital and departmental standards.
  • Support preventive maintenance of equipment to reduce technical failures and make necessary adjustments during equipment malfunctions.
  • Keep accurate patient care records and other essential documentation.
  • Foster effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the public.

Position Details:
  • Full-Time Position: 100% commitment
  • Work Schedule: Hours may vary between 8:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Pay Grade: 5

Qualifications:

Required: Eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists in radiation therapy procedures or a Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy or equivalent. A permit to practice in the State of Iowa is mandatory.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.


Desirable Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Sciences is highly preferred.
  • Recent experience with advanced radiation therapy technologies and specialized procedures is highly desirable.
  • Experience with imaging positioning and localization techniques, as well as magnetic resonance imaging procedures, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with gamma radiation therapy technology and computed tomography simulation is beneficial.
  • Experience with electronic radiation therapy medical record systems is advantageous.
