Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Veterinarian to join our team at Texas Biomedical Research Institute. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical care and preventative medicine support to our nonhuman primate colonies.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in primate clinical medicine, with a minimum of three years of experience beyond their doctoral degree. They will be responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of our research animals, as well as implementing and executing research projects in ABSL2, 3, or 4 settings.

The successful candidate will also be appointed as a Core Scientist of the SNPRC and will be a member of the Texas Biomed faculty, at an appropriate rank (Assistant or Associate Professor).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical care and preventative medicine support to nonhuman primate colonies
  • Implement and execute research projects in ABSL2, 3, or 4 settings
  • Ensure regulatory compliance consistent with Standard Operating Procedures and in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act and The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals
  • Lead a team of veterinary technical staff
  • Collaborate with internal and external Principal Investigators

Requirements:

  • D.V.M./V.M.D. degree from an AVMA accredited university
  • Valid license to practice in the United States
  • USDA accreditation or ability to become accredited
  • Three or more years of experience beyond the doctoral degree in primate clinical medicine

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years of primate clinical medicine experience
  • Formal training in laboratory animal medicine
  • Five or more years of primate experience in a laboratory animal research setting
  • ACLAM board certification or board eligibility
