Position Overview

Under guidance, the Criminal Investigator (Arson Unit) conducts inquiries into alleged or suspected breaches of Federal, state, or local statutes, regulations, and ordinances to ascertain if sufficient evidence exists to advocate for prosecution or to relay findings to the relevant jurisdictional authority for their consideration.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborates with various agencies on tasks such as surveillance, documentation, and research.

• Executes background checks.

• Performs internal reviews of law enforcement bodies.

• Analyzes records to identify connections in the chain of evidence or information.

• Gathers and authenticates evidence through interviews and observations of suspects and witnesses, as well as by scrutinizing records.

• Collects pertinent information related to ongoing cases.

• Drafts comprehensive reports that outline investigation outcomes.

• Recognizes case-related issues and determines necessary evidence.

• Employs appropriate software tools to organize, compile, and evaluate financial data and evidence.

• Undertakes additional responsibilities as assigned.

Specific Application Requirements for Qualified Candidates:

2. A complete transcript (Individual Officer Profile) of your Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) training and history records, including your officer profile page. This record must be current, reflecting the date of your application submission.

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is required, along with completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Program certification; alternatively, two (2) years of experience in law enforcement or a related field and Georgia P.O.S.T. certification may be acceptable. Note: Some roles may necessitate the incumbent to possess a valid Class C driver's license.
