Nursing Unit Supervisor for Critical Care

Join our esteemed healthcare organization as a Nursing Unit Supervisor for our Intermediate Care and Intensive Care Units. This full-time role entails a commitment of 40 hours per week, with shifts available from either 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM or 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. This position does not require weekend or holiday work.
Position Summary
We seek individuals who are dedicated to critical care and possess a robust background in bedside nursing, complemented by progressive leadership experience. The role encompasses oversight of an 18-bed ICU and a 12-bed IMC, catering to a diverse range of patient cases. Additionally, this position includes responsibilities related to Code Blue and Rapid Response teams.
Key Responsibilities
The Nursing Unit Supervisor is an integral member of the MedStar Health Division of Nursing and leadership team. Responsibilities include:
1. Collaborating with the Director of Nursing to provide guidance and oversight for the designated unit/department.
2. Directing and coordinating nursing and patient care delivery among professional and support staff.
3. Ensuring the delivery of holistic, culturally competent, and patient-centered care that is safe, effective, and evidence-based.
4. Applying the nursing process within the framework of shared decision-making.
5. Managing patient transitions across the continuum of care to support optimal health outcomes.
6. Assuming administrative and leadership authority during specific shifts for the assigned unit/department.
7. Promoting a culture of quality, safety, and cost-effective patient care.
8. Collaborating with the Director of Nursing to uphold regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as MedStar Health policies.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) from an accredited institution is required.
- A minimum of 3-4 years of progressive nursing experience in an IMC or ICU setting is essential.
- Previous experience in a Charge Nurse or supervisory capacity is highly preferred.
- An active RN license in MD or an active Compact State RN license, along with Basic Life Support certification for Healthcare Providers, is mandatory.
