Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Director, Maintenance, Operations and Facilities, and in collaboration with the site administrator, the Custodian Substitute is responsible for maintaining assigned structures and surrounding areas in a clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly condition. This includes performing custodial and cleaning duties, as well as special cleaning assignments, including those involving outside areas as requested. The Custodian Substitute also secures rooms, buildings, and appurtenances, and works day hours during Summer recess periods.

Requirements / Qualifications

Future permanent and substitute vacancies may be filled from this recruitment. Current OVSD classified employees may not hold two permanent job assignments. If you are already a permanent employee for the District and are interested in working more hours, you may submit a transfer request form to the Classified Personnel office or inquire about becoming a substitute in the same or other classifications, in addition to your permanent assignment.

We reserve the right to limit the number of candidates to those deemed most qualified for the particular vacancy, based on application screening and test scores. An application screening will be conducted to verify that the minimum qualifications (education and experience) have been satisfied. If you pass the screening, you may be invited to participate in the written and/or performance exam. All candidates will be required to provide a photo ID with their signature.

If you pass the written and/or performance exam, you may be scheduled to participate in the Oral/Technical Exam. Candidates must pass each portion of the exam in order to proceed in the recruitment and be placed on the eligibility list. The eligibility list for this recruitment will be valid for one year.

Types of Exams and Tentative Dates

The written exam will be administered on Wednesdays. Once you have applied and your application is complete, you will receive an invitation to test via email with the date of the exam. Please monitor your inbox for more information on testing/next steps.

Comments and Other Information

Employees who work thirty or more regularly assigned hours per week are eligible for health and welfare benefits and will receive a district contribution toward a cafeteria fringe benefit package. Employees who are eligible are required to participate in employee-only medical, dental, and life insurance coverage.
