POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Mechanical Systems Technician is responsible for executing a comprehensive range of skilled trades functions at an advanced level, including plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, and safety systems. This role ensures the continuous safe operation of essential campus systems while collaborating with various departments within the Physical Plant as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Execute a full spectrum of tasks related to specific trades, including installation, repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Assess and prioritize daily work orders effectively.
  • Procure necessary parts and supplies to facilitate job completion.
  • Stay informed about updates in codes and safety regulations pertinent to the specific trade.
  • Collaborate with contractors for annual inspections and compliance upgrades.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of new projects and renovations within the area of expertise.
  • Manage and coordinate small-scale projects; supervise external contractors working on campus.
  • Provide oversight to apprentice tradespeople or small work crews.
  • Conduct all duties in a safe and professional manner, adhering to institutional policies and procedures.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in proper working condition.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION

Tasks are assigned and supervised by the Assistant Director or Director of Physical Plant.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A high school diploma along with five to ten years of relevant experience and training in the specific trade or a combination of experience and on-the-job training.
  • Must possess the highest certification in the specific trade (e.g., Master Electrician, Master Plumber).
  • Experience with computerized systems and/or energy management systems is preferred.
  • Some background in leadership or oversight of others is advantageous.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Solid general knowledge of building construction and repair.
  • A physical examination is required to ensure the ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Availability for evening and weekend work may be necessary.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel between campuses may be required.
