Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Drainage Engineer to join our team at Hays County, TX. As a key member of our Development Services department, you will play a critical role in protecting public health, safety, and welfare by administering and implementing various regulations and programs related to drainage, flood damage prevention, and stormwater management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer and implement the Flood Damage Prevention regulations, reviewing and issuing Development Authorizations for development in Hays County.
  • Oversee the provisions of the Subdivision Regulations, reviewing and approving development and subdivisions as the Floodplain Administrator.
  • Implement and oversee the Storm Water Management Standards.
  • Coordinate and monitor the status of applications and approval processes between applicants, county departments, and employees.
  • Assist with the Hays County Stormwater Regulations and the Hays County Stormwater Management Program (SWMP).
  • Oversee the implementation of the Hays County Drainage Criteria Manual.
  • Investigate complaints related to drainage, development, and subdivision developments.
  • Assist staff during application review processes to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Schedule and perform inspections to determine compliance with county regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain inspections, enforcement, and compliance reporting.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop goals and policies.
  • Represent the department on issues related to the program and provide educational information to various audiences.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, Environmental Science, Water Resource Management/Modeling, or a related field.
  • Five years of relevant experience in engineering, subdivision regulations, stormwater management, hydraulics, and hydrology, or floodplain management.
  • Three years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license.
  • Texas licensed professional engineer (P.E.).
  • Floodplain Manager Certification or the ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
