Asphalt Plant Supervisor

Fred Smith Company is seeking an experienced Asphalt Plant Foreman to oversee the daily operations of our Triangle plants. The successful candidate will have a strong background in asphalt production and management, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities- Team Leadership: Create a positive and productive work environment, encouraging subordinates to improve their skills and maintain high morale.
- Operational Oversight: Ensure crew members start work on time and work the required number of hours, while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
- Equipment Management: Assist and direct crew members in the proper use, maintenance, and repair of equipment, while promoting cost control, quality improvement, and productivity.
- Performance Evaluation: Participate in the periodic evaluation of assigned personnel, discussing their contributions to the company and their development needs.
- Supervision and Direction: Supervise and direct the activities of assigned personnel, providing guidance and instruction on equipment operation, technique, and maintenance.
- New Hire Orientation: Ensure new personnel receive proper orientation, acquainting them with company policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
- Collaboration and Communication: Develop a cooperative working relationship with operators, project managers, superintendents, and other foremen, while complying with Human Resources and Risk Management department requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Conduct ongoing evaluations of cost/yields, materials, plans, schedules, salaries, promotions, job assignments, equipment changes, and quality control, reporting any issues or recommendations to Operations Manager or Superintendent.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all work undertaken complies with local laws, ordinances, and EPA regulations concerning asphalt production and related activities.
- Customer and Public Relations: Maintain close contact and a positive working relationship with the general public, engineers, inspectors, and customers, promoting a positive company image.
- Reporting and Record-Keeping: Prepare and maintain all required reports, verifying their accuracy and transmitting them promptly to Operations Manager or Superintendent.
- Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned, including equipment inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
- Valid Driver's License: Possess a valid driver's license with a positive driving history.
- Pre-Employment Screening: Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
This position requires thorough knowledge of asphalt production, extensive computer skills, and the ability to use precision measuring instruments. The successful candidate must have a working knowledge of mix design and quality control associated with asphalt production.
Physical DemandsThe position requires the ability to climb onto and into vehicles, stoop, kneel, crouch, lift, and grasp. The job also requires sitting, standing, and walking for sustained periods, as well as the ability to express ideas through spoken communication and perceive sounds and receive detailed information through oral communications.
