Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at Corewell Health. As a Medical Technologist, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and specialized tests and procedures in our clinical laboratory. This is a full-time position working an evening shift, with a 40-hour workweek and every other weekend.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and complex chemical, hematologic, microscopic, morphologic immunologic, and/or microbiologic procedures using laboratory instruments or manual techniques.
- Release quality patient test results, evaluate instrument performance, and correlate results with other laboratory data and/or disease states.
- Standardize, calibrate, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Assist in the development and design of new test procedures and methodologies, and participate in the evaluation and introduction of new instruments or procedures.
- Participate in the instruction of clinical laboratory science to students, residents, and new employees, and attend and participate in department continuing education and in-service training programs.
- Participate in quality assurance and regulatory agency activities, including performance of proficiency testing, involvement in TQM/CQI committees, and development and documentation of quality assurance monitors.
- Provide direction and guidance to medical laboratory technicians and other laboratory personnel, and communicate with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers regarding lab results, procedures, and technology.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you will need a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology and 16 semester hours in chemistry. You must also have completion of a clinical laboratory approved or accredited program by NAACLS or at least three months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which you perform high complexity testing. Certification, licensure, or registration by a recognized certifying agency is also required.
Working Conditions:
This position requires considerable walking and standing, and occasional light lifting to store supplies. You will work in a clinical laboratory and be exposed to hazardous reagents and infectious materials.
